“Can I drive my pump with wind power?”
From time to time we have been asked about connecting a windmill directly to an un-motorized pump. While this is physically possible it is NOT SUPPORTED by Simple Pump Co. There are pumps specifically designed for this purpose. Unfortunately the Simple Pump is not. Therefore such an installation will void the Simple Pump warranty. We cannot offer a warranty when the Simple Pump is being driven by a very powerful mechanical device constructed by someone else.
In addition, you have no power when the wind isn’t blowing. This is not a great option when you want a secure, reliable water supply.
In Conclusion
The recommended, and warranty supported, use of a windmill is to drive a generator which then charges batteries that power our motor.
